How To Use the Hex Editor
Introduction The Calterm III tool permits the user to view and make changes to hexadecimal address blocks, located on the module or from within a calibration file or subfile. The user can gain access through a pre- determined range of addresses or customize the Hex Editor grid by entering the start address and length of addresses to examine.

Hex Editor This table outlines the steps for using the Hex Editor.

1 | At the Calterm III window, from the File menu, Select the Open Module or Open Calibration option. On the dialog box, Select the appropriate Product and Configuration field. Depending on the session selected, Select the appropriate Calibration or Datalink information and Click <OK>. Result: The Module or Calibration session will open. | |
2 | From the View menu, Select the Hex Editor option. Note: If opening the Hex Editor during a Module session a warning message will display Warning: Opening the Hex Editor will take some time and Data Monitor will stop. Do you want to proceed anyway? Follow the instructions. Result: The Hex Editor opens with a configuration area on the left and a blank editor grid on the right. | |
3 | Choose a range of hex addresses by selecting a valid address range field. |
5 | To edit a Hex address value, Select the appropriate address location, Type in a new value and Press ENTER. Result: The value changes and the grid background changes to yellow. | ||
6 | To undo the last edited value, from the Edit menu, Select the Undo option. Result: The editor resets the last value change to its previous |

7 | To undo all edited values, from the Edit menu, Select the Revert All option. Result: The editor resets all edited entries back to their original values. | |
8 | When all of the appropriate changes have been made, Click <Save>. Result: If the Hex Editor is saved during a Calibration editing session, then the calibration is saved to file. If the Hex Editor is saved during a Module session then the Save Changes command is sent to the module. In both instances, new messages will be displayed in the Event Log. |
